The militants linked with the Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) were encircled in the Nagbaeran region of Tral near Pulwama, according to an official. The extremists opened fire after being besieged by security officers, authorities said and were killed in the ensuing fight. Wakeel Shah was one of the assassinated insurgents.
In today’s encounter, Inspector General of Police Vijay Kumar said that JeM militant Shah was neutralized. He was engaged in the assassination of BJP leader Rakesh Pandita.
The Army has been conducting search operations in the upper portions of the Nagaberan and Dacchigam Forests since August 17.
The Army stated that contact with militants was established around 6.45 a.m. on August 20. They were found with two AK-47 weapons, one SLR, and other war-related items.
