The Supreme Court voiced its concern on Monday with the Uttar Pradesh government’s status report on the October 3 violence in Lakhimpur Kheri, in which eight persons were killed, including four farmers and a local journalist.
The court stated that the status report contained nothing other than the government’s statement that more witnesses had been questioned in the case. The court stated, “This is not going the way we expected.”
Further, the highest court said it will assign a former judge of a high court from outside UP to monitor the inquiry, citing its dissatisfaction with the mingling of witnesses in separate FIRs in the case. On Friday, the case will be heard again.
