Former Afghan vice president Amrulla Saleh remarked on Thursday that former President Ashraf Ghani’s departure was a mistake “a stain on our collective memory.” “Ghani’s escape ruined whatever positivity was left about his image,” he said in an exclusive interview with WION’s Palki Sharma “I am really sorry that he did not exhibit a sense of sacrifice and giving back to the country at the appropriate time.”
Even if Ghani had been imprisoned by Taliban miscreants, the former Afghan vice president reasoned, it would have served as a “rallying point” for Afghans. Ghani’s capture would have sparked international outrage, and things could have turned out differently.
