The Union government has been informed that the Serum Institute of India (SII) will supply roughly 20 crore doses of the vaccine against coronavirus illness (Covid-19) developed by Oxford University-Astrazeneca in September, which the Pune-based business is manufacturing as Covishield in India. This is more than double the number of dosages that the SII had stated will be supplied that month.
The SII placed its manufacturing capacity for Covishield for August and September at 10 crores apiece in a production plan submitted to the national government in May. The world’s largest vaccine maker has delivered 12 crore vaccination doses to the government and private hospitals.
