As per the police, a woman in her early 30s was raped and savagely assaulted in a stationary tempo in Mumbai’s Saki Naka early on Friday (September 10). According to sources, the heinous event has sent shockwaves across the country and bears a worrying resemblance to the 2012 Nirbhaya tragedy in Delhi, in which the Saki Naka woman was likewise sexually abused and tortured, with an iron rod forced into her body.

According to an official, the culprit, Mohan Chouhan (45), was caught few hours after the incident. He said the police control room received a call early Friday morning (September 10) about a man assaulting a woman on Khairani Road. A police crew arrived on the scene to discover a woman in a pool of blood. An officer claimed she was transferred to the Rajawadi hospital, which is managed by the city.
