Amit Khare, secretary of the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, said on Friday, “There is no censorship like films on Over the Top (OTT)”. The respective platforms will categorize their own content. Its purpose is that people get the right information before viewing the content. He said, three broad objectives have been set for this – institutional mechanisms, grievance system empowering citizens and uniform standards for various media to regulate the sector. On the new guidelines for social media and OTT platforms released by the central government on Thursday, Khare said that we know that there are different types of media. Print media is different from TV, TV is different from movies and movies are different from web series. We cannot set a standard for everyone but in the end there should be some kind of equality. A common, self-regulatory process has been set for OTT and digital media in which government intervention will be minimal.Khare said, “We have considered age to be the main basis for creating OTT guide lines, which is an international process.” Like cinema, CBFC has no classification of content on OTT. These platforms themselves will sort the content by age. They are the ones who will report the content as per the age standards.
