The Saarthi Foundation, a Maharashtra-based NGO dedicated to the betterment of the poor in the public health and education sector, has created Maharashtra’s premier public toilet specifically for transgender people. The measure is intended to offer a safe area for transgender people and to avoid gender prejudice. The toilet has been opened in the Omble Garden at Aarey in Goregaon.
The ‘Kinnar’ Samaj is frequently overlooked and ridiculed in society, resulting in continuous pain for them. They are continually struggling for their survival and basic rights, such as access to sanitary and hygienic conditions. The metro’s first transgender toilet will undoubtedly bolster the morale of the third gender population, which has often felt unwanted in public restrooms.
