He also added that 123 others have been injured and 15 are seriously injured in the tragedy.
An NDRF team has been rushed to the spot to aid in search and rescue operations.
The shocking accident of the Air India Express flight, which crashed and split in two while landing at Kozhikode International Airport, has claimed the life of the pilot and co-pilot.
The pilots of the ill-fated Air India Express Flight No IX 1344 from Dubai to Kozhikode has been identified as Captain Deepak Vasant Sathe and First Officer Akhilesh Kumar. Captain Sathe was a former Indian Air Force Test pilot. He was commissioned into service in 1981 and served in the force for 22 years.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on the phone after an Air India Express plane coming from Dubai overshot the runway at the Kozhikode airport on Friday. He was informed by the chief minister that a team of officials including Kozhikode and Malappuram district collectors and IG Ashok Yadav have arrived at the airport to participate in the rescue operation.
