Bidhannagar police have been preventing tourists from entering the city’s most-hyped Durga Puja pandal since the early hours of Friday, unable to stop the surge of revelers. At Sreebhumi in Lake Town, the pandal is a duplicate of Dubai’s famed tower Burj Khalifa.
The announcement came on the same day that the number of new Covid positive cases in Kolkata surpassed 200 for the first time in over four months. The fundamental cause of the soaring Covid-19 numbers in the city, according to doctors, is the irresponsible rush of revelers during Puja pandals.
