Officials stated at least three workers were killed and another 70 were badly wounded while working on the Dubai Expo 2020 site while claiming that safety measures were “world-class.” According to the Associated Press, this is the first instance the Dubai Expo has released information on worker fatalities during the mammoth world’s fair’s development.
The organizers initially stated that five employees had been killed, but subsequently issued a statement calling the prior count an “error.”
The figures were revealed after the European Parliament criticized the UAE’s record on human rights and “inhumane” treatment of immigrant workpeople, calling for a boycott of the six-month-long international exhibition.
