Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma arrived at Jorhat this morning, around 350 kilometers from Guwahati, to oversee rescue operations following a boat accident on the Brahmaputra River that claimed at least one life.
On Wednesday, about 100 passengers were on board two boats when they collided at Nimati Ghat in Jorhat. Around 4 p.m., the incident occurred.
An arm of the Congress party, the All India Unorganized Workers Congress, published a video that recorded the moment the two boats crashed. As one of the boats begins to capsize, passengers, including ladies, are heard screaming in terror and jumping into the river. Some of them may be seen attempting to swim to the other, more stable boat.
