On Saturday, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma entered the mass of people asking for the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), stating that it “must be brought in.”

“Everyone wants to go to UCC. No Muslim woman likes her husband to have three wives at home. Any Muslim woman will tell you that. UCC isn’t just a problem for me; it’s a problem for all Muslim women. UCC would have to be brought if they are to be provided justice following the repeal of triple talaq,” according to the Chief Minister.

Several BJP-controlled state administrations have recently declared their desire to follow the UCC.
