On Sunday, the Centre introduced two ordinances that would allow directors of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to serve for an additional five years. The current ED and CBI chiefs have two-year terms.

The Delhi Special Police (Establishment) Ordinance, 2021, and the Central Vigilance Commission (Amendment) Ordinance, 2021, will take effect immediately, according to the Ministry of Law and Justice. The Central Vigilance Commission Act, 2003 will be amended by the Central Vigilance Commission (Amendment) Ordinance, 2021. The Ordinances are being promulgated by the President because Parliament is currently not in session, according to the Ministry.
