Karnataka Clarifies New Event Rules: Not Targeted Solely at RSS, Says CM Siddaramaiah

Karnataka| Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has stated that the state cabinet’s recent move to introduce guidelines for organizing events in public areas and on government property is not aimed exclusively at the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

Speaking on Friday, Siddaramaiah addressed growing speculation following his cabinet’s decision on Thursday, which some interpreted as a direct measure to curb RSS activities such as processions and public gatherings.

“This is not just about the RSS,” Siddaramaiah clarified. “No organization can conduct any activity in public or government spaces without prior approval from the authorities. This is a general policy that applies to everyone.”

He further pointed out that the foundation for such restrictions was actually laid during the previous BJP-led government. In 2013, then Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar’s administration issued a directive limiting the use of school premises and associated playgrounds strictly to educational functions.

By referencing the earlier BJP rule, Siddaramaiah aimed to underscore the continuity of the policy approach, distancing it from accusations of political targeting.
