The government expects to get roughly 266 million COVID-19 vaccine shots in August, according to the president of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s party, as a simplified licensing process has allowed the government secures significantly more than previously planned.
A senior government official told reporters late last month that the government could only expect to get roughly 150 million doses in August.
Since then, India’s medicines regulator has approved the Johnson & Johnson vaccine – though the company has yet to commit to delivery date – and commercial manufacturing of Russia’s Sputnik V could begin in India as well.
