According to the administration, at least 15-20 Indians remain in conflict-torn Ukraine and are awaiting evacuation. It stated that “Operation Ganga” rescue missions “are not over.” “We are assisting these individuals in whatever way we can. There are still some individuals in Kherson. Operation Ganga is still ongoing, and we are assisting anybody who wishes to be evacuated.” Arindam Bagchi, the spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry, stated in a press conference. Kherson is located in the south of Ukraine.
When hostilities in Ukraine rose, the Indian embassy in Kyiv launched a registration campaign for Indians in January, and by the end of the month, 20,000 Indians – largely students – had signed up. More than half the students were enrolled at colleges in eastern Ukraine, which borders Russia, according to Foreign Minister S Jaishankar. So far, this region has been the focus of the war.
Till now, 22,500 evacuated from Ukraine, among which some were in isolated pockets and some don’t want to return.
