BENGALURU: A 47-year-old unmarried woman spent two days with the bodies of her mother and younger brother at their residence in BEML Layout, near Rajarajeshwari Nagar. The incident came to light on Wednesday, soon after police got a call from the public about bad odour emanating from their house.
Praveen, a resident of BEML Layout, approached Rajarajeshwari Nagar police around 2 pm and informed them about foul smell coming from his landlord’s residence.
Police rushed to the spot and found a partially decomposed body of a man next to the window in the living room. They broke open the door and entered the house only to see a frail woman walk out of a room. Police found another decomposed body of a woman inside the room.
The deceased have been identified as Aryamba, 65, and her son Harish, 45, a private firm employee. The woman found alive in the house has been identified as Srilakshmi, 47, daughter of Aryamba and elder sister of Harish.
Preliminary investigation revealed Harish had tested positive for Covid-19 on April 22. He was in home isolation. Police said Srilakshmi is mentally unsound and hence failed to realise her mother and brother were dead. They have sent the partially decomposed bodies to Victoria Hospital for postmortem. Sanjeev M Patil, deputy commissioner of police (west), said Rajarajeshwari Nagar police have taken up a case of unnatural death and further probe is on,” said Patil.
‘I thought mom was sleeping’
Srilakshmi told police that her mother and brother (in pics) were sleeping and hence she was waiting for them to wake up. Asked why she hadn’t eaten food for two days, Srilakshmi said, “My mother used to cook for me and my brother. I thought she was sleeping. I did not eat anything as my mother did not wake up and prepare any food.” Srilakshmi told police that her mother fell on the floor a few days ago and Harish tried to call an ambulance. Later, he too fell on the floor. Police verified her claim and found Harish had dialled 108 multiple times on Monday (May 10) morning. However, no one had responded to the calls.
