Officials announced Tuesday that a case has been filed in Sitapur against Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and ten others under laws about preventative custody owing to suspicion of disturbance of peace, with the Congress contesting her imprisonment.
According to officials, a complaint has been filed against Uttar Pradesh Congress chairman Ajay Kumar Lallu and party leader Deependra Hooda under sections 151, 107, and 116 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (all of which pertain to preventative arrest owing to concern of disturbance of the peace). On Monday, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and other party leaders were arrested while on their way to see victims of the violence that occurred during a farmers’ protest in Lakhimpur Kheri the day before.
