Sushil Ansal and Gopal Ansal, two businessmen, have been sentenced to seven years in prison for tampering with evidence in the 1997 fire at Delhi’s Uphaar theatre, which killed 59 people. The Ansal brothers, who own a large real estate company, were also penalized 2.25 crore apiece by the Patiala House Court in Delhi.
A month ago, both were found guilty of tampering with evidence in the case. Today was the day of the sentencing. The Supreme Court had already sentenced the Ansals to two years in prison. They were later released and fined Rs 30 crore each, which would be used to construct a trauma center in the national capital.
