Due to severe to extremely heavy overnight rains that pounded Chennai and many other districts in Tamil Nadu, causing flooding in many parts, Chief Minister M K Stalin declared a two-day holiday for educational institutions in the Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, and Chengalpet districts on Sunday (Monday, Tuesday).

Because the continuous rains have caused extensive damage in other regions, the collectors have issued orders declaring holidays for all schools and colleges under their control. According to the latest reports, schools in Kallakurichi, Vellore, Ranipet, Tiruchirapalli, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Namakkal, Pudukkotai, and Dindigul have declared holidays, while schools and colleges in Tiruvannamalai, Thanjavur, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Salem, Karur, Tiruppathur, and Siva.
