The Indian women’s hockey team shocked Australia to enter the semi-finals in Tokyo.
India held onto their lead through Gurjit Kaur in the second quarters as they showcased immense defensive might to keep the Australian women at bay. The Rani-rampel-led indian team defeated world no.2 Australia 1-0 in the quarterfinal clash thanks to Gurjit Kaur’s 22 minute strike. India’s best result was a fourth place finish in a round-robin competition with six teams in the 1980 Olympics games.
A day after the Indian men’s team entered the Olympic semifinals following a 49-year-gap, the world no.9 women’s side also entered the history books with a phenomenal gritty performance.
