All nine names, including three women, submitted by the Supreme Court Collegium and agreed by the government for appointment as Supreme Court judges were confirmed by the President today. On August 31, the judges will take their oaths.
After the new judges are sworn in, the Supreme Court will have only one vacancy, as it currently has 25 judges against a sanctioned strength of 34. It is likely the first time that nine candidates for the Supreme Court have been submitted and all have been confirmed by the administration.
