Tamil Nadu Health Minister, Ma Subramanian on 17th May warned people against the use of steam inhalation as a preventive measure for Covid-19. The message comes timely and it has been substantiated by medical experts.

In a press statement, he said that self-medication can be dangerous while he also raised concern against the use of steam inhalation. “Hot and pressurized air” can cause damage to the lungs and also since during the inhalation mouth is opened, there is a huge risk of transmission of the virus. Since corona affects the lungs, he suggested people should not resort to this method without consulting their doctors first.

This statement comes in just after BJP’s Vanathi Srinivasan inaugurated a steam inhalation unit and a mobile steam inhalation vehicle in Coimbatore. A similar setup was also done by Chennai Central Railway Station on the same day.
