Hundreds of supporters of the Trinamool Congress Party gathered outside the CBI office in Kolkata and staged a protest by pelting stones at the CBI gate and raised slogans against CBI and BJP. Due to the chaos created and the law and order in danger, CRPF had to be deployed.

This comes in after 4 of the TMC leaders Firhad Hakim, Subrata Mukherjee, Madan Mitra, and Sovan Chatterjee were arrested in connection to the Narada Sting Operation. Following this, Mamta Banerjee also reached the CBI office and challenged them to arrest her as well since she claims the arrest was illegal. Later, the court granted bail to all 4 of them.

The Narada Sting Operation was a series of secret tapes recorded by Mathew Samuel of Narada TV News channel in 2014. It shows 12 TCM leaders and an IPS officer taking bribes. Even though it was recorded in 2014, it was released in 2016 only before the assembly elections despite which TMC was able to win the elections. Later, a CBI probe was ordered by the Calcutta High court in 2017.
