The US military announced Friday that a drone strike was carried out on a “planner” of the Islamic State of Khorasan, the group that claimed responsibility for the deadly suicide bombing at Kabul airport.
After at least one Islamic State suicide bomber killed 170 people, including 13 US soldiers, outside the gates of Kabul airport on Friday, US forces assisting Afghans desperate to flee Taliban control were on high alert for future strikes.
Witnesses reported two blasts and gunshots shook the area outside the airport on Thursday evening. Hundreds of victims were sprawled along a canal on the outskirts of the airport, according to a video captured by Afghan journalists.
