The continuing issue in Punjab was exacerbated today by Navjot Singh Sidhu’s unexpected resignation as the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee’s chairman.
“I told you so… he is not a stable man and not fit for the border state of Punjab,” said Amarinder Singh, the former Chief Minister, shortly after. Punjab cabinet minister Razia Sultana also quit hours later “in solidarity with Navjot Sidhu”. The resignations came just months before the Punjab election.
In a letter to Congress President Sonia Gandhi, Mr. Sidhu stated that he intends to continue serving the party. He became the state party’s leader in July of this year.
