The Karnataka government announced on Monday that schools for grades 6 to 8 will begin classes on September 6. The sessions will be held five days a week, with the remaining two days dedicated to sanitization. In each class, only 50% attendance will be permitted. This will be the first time these students have attended normal school since the pandemic began in March 2020. In the preceding week, the state administration reopened schools from grades 8 to 12.
Following a meeting headed by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and the state level TAC, Revenue Minister R Ashoka told the media that schools in districts with a positive rate of more than 2% will remain closed.
