According to Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) spokesperson Saifur Rehman, a Qatar Airways plane from New Delhi was forced to land at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport after developing a “technical issue.” Qatar Airways has dispatched an alternate aircraft to transport the 283 passengers to their location by 1 p.m., according to the spokeswoman. After detecting smoke in the plane’s cargo hold, the pilot reported an urgent situation, he claimed.
“The plane landed safely in Karachi, where it was greeted by emergency personnel and passengers departed in a timely and orderly manner via stairs,” the airline said in a statement, according to the BBC.
