Telangana’s 32 Additional District Collectors are in for a pandemic-era windfall. K Chandrasekhar Rao, the state’s chief minister, has purchased 32 Kia Carnival automobiles, each worth between Rs 25 and Rs 30 lakh. According to opposition leaders, this comes when the state is grappling with a 40,000 crore debt and the crippling Covid epidemic.
After Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao viewed the vehicles, Telangana Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar waved them off on Sunday at Pragati Bhavan, the Chief Minister’s house in Hyderabad, in the sight of state Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar and other dignitaries.
The BJP has termed Chief Minister Rao’s decision to “satisfy bureaucrats” in the state a “criminal extravagance.”
