On Ram Navami, two groups of students collided at the Jawaharlal Nehru University’s Kaveri Hostel here, purportedly over the issue of non-veg food in the canteen. Six students were hurt, according to police. Meanwhile, both sides alleged that over 60 students were hurt on both ends.
On social media, many reported videos of the assault appeared, one of which showed a student, Akhtarista Ansari, bleeding profusely. Authorities have not verified the videos’ legitimacy. Students of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad allegedly barred students from consuming non-vegetarian meals in the dormitory mess and “creating a hostile situation,” according to the JNUSU.
