After a discussion between the temple priest and the mosque’s imam, who resolved to deliver a message of communal unity, the largest temple and a mosque in Uttar Pradesh’s Badagaon town have taken down their speakers. Shanti Mohan Dass, the temple priest, and Hafiz Mohammad Taj Alam, the imam, said they agreed to take down the loudspeakers that had been used in the temple and mosque for years.
In Badagaon town’s Gandhi Chowk neighborhood, the Ram Janki temple, one of Jhansi’s most respected temples, and the Sunni Jama Mosque are near to one other. Whereas the temple used its loudspeakers to broadcast the morning arti, the mosque utilized its loudspeakers five times a day to broadcast the azaan (Muslim call to prayer).
