The biggest festival of Sikhs is considered to be Guru Parv i.e. Guru Nanak Jayanti. The birthday of Guru Nanak Dev, the first Guru of the Sikhs and the founder of this community, is celebrated as Guru Nanak Jayanti. Guru Nanak Jayanti occurs on the full moon day in the month of Kartik, hence it is also known as Kartik Purnima. Born on 15 April 1469 in Rai-Bhoi-di Talwandi in present-day Sheikhpura district of Pakistan, Guru Nanak’s mind seemed to be involved in religious activities from the beginning.
On this special occasion, people of Sikhism wear new clothes and go to gurdwaras. The morning of Guru Nanak Jayanti begins with the Prabhat Pheri at the Gurdwara. On this day people chant the name of the Guru in the gurudwara, Shabad-Kirtan and Bhajan-singing are also organized.
