On Wednesday, the killing of Haitian President Jovenel Moise elicited outrage and condemnation from leaders in Latin America, Europe, and abroad, as well as pleas for calm and unity in Haiti. According to Haiti’s interim prime minister, Mose was slain in an assault on his private house early Wednesday. Martine Mose, the first lady, was shot and hospitalised during the nighttime attack.
Colombian President Iván Duque denounced the “cowardly conduct” and emphasised his country’s sympathy with Haiti. He urged the Organization of American States to send an immediate mission to “protect democratic order.”
