On the eve of Diwali, Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi announced a slew of relief measures for citizens and state government employees.
He stated that the power tariff for residential consumers in the state with up to a 7-kilowatt load connection would be reduced by 3 per unit across all slabs. He announced an 11% increase in dearness allowance for state government employees and urged them to sit for talks and refrain from agitating over any of their demands until the next assembly election.
He, however, refused to comment on Advocate General APS Deol’s resignation. However, an officer in the CMO confirmed that the resignation had been accepted and that the next steps would be announced soon.
