“Yediyurappa’s tears will wash away BJP in Karnataka”, States Lingayats

Dingaleshwar, a Lingayat seer, forecast disaster for the BJP in Karnataka to journalists crowded around his Balehosur mutt. On 26 July, BS Yediyurappa quit as chief minister of Karnataka, prompting him to say that his tears will wipe away the BJP in the state. “Blackmailing” Yediyurappa, the seer said, made it clear that the Lingayat mutts would not accept the resignation of the CM. As a result of his departure, the seers are now supporting BJP politicians from their own society for the position of the chief minister.
Nearly 17 percent of Karnataka’s population is made up of Lingayats, a major caste category. They have been staunch BJP followers since the 1990s.
