Owing to the COVID-19 epidemic, the state of Uttarakhand released a statement in June canceling the Kanwar Yatra 2021. The nation had experienced a significant increase in instances earlier this year, leading to the second wave, which was mostly due to festivals, and the Kumbh Mela, which was visited by millions.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami urged that the Kanwar Yatra be halted and asked his colleague in Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, to rethink his proposal to support the yatra.
This occurred shortly after he discussed the yearly pilgrimage with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.
