The Assam Police has arrested two journalists who tried to discredit a state minister. Police in the case said that the two journalists had shared a picture of Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his daughter with wrong motives.Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) GP Singh said Taufikuddin Ahmed, the editor-in-chief of a local news website, and Iqbal, the news editor, were arrested on Wednesday in connection with the conspiracy investigation.He said that the police would take strict action against all such efforts under the strict provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (Poxo) Act. The official also said that both the journalists have been arrested on the basis of a case lodged at Dispur police station. Singh said that action will be taken against all such persons, who have used social media platforms to pursue this conspiracy in any way. In fact, the website posted a picture of Himanta Biswa Sarma, Minister of State in Khanapara, Guwahati, in which he is hugging a girl. After this picture became viral on social media.When the matter started heating up, the website later apologized for not mentioning that the girl the minister is embracing in the photo is his daughter. The website also blamed others on social media for sharing it with the intention of defaming Sarma. The news website retweeted on its post and noted that the photo featured the minister and his daughter. Police said that it is engaged in identifying the people who made the post viral.
