The eruption of a volcano in Congo, Mount Nyiragongo, has left dozens dead, thousands missing and more than 20,000 homeless. The nearby city of Goma, just 15 km from the volcano, has been especially affected.
The Goma city airport had to be closed down due to a cloud of ash caused by the volcanic eruption. The UN stated that the ash can also be the cause of respiratory diseases.
People of Goma had to flee their homes, and returned to see their valuable possessions either consumed by lava or looted.
Since the eruption, 200 small and medium earthquakes have cracked the streets and buildings of Goma. The authorities’ Twitter indicates restoration of the road has already been started.
