Because of limited expansions of the virus in a few areas and the sickness continues to be a public health challenge in the country, the federal authorities on Tuesday extended the nationwide Covid-19 containment measures until October 31.

Union home secretary Ajay Bhalla warned all state and union territory chief secretaries about the potential of Covid-appropriate behavior not being strictly followed over the next festival, which might lead to another spike in cases.

Despite a decrease in Covid-19 cases, he stressed the importance of enforcing norms that allow for regular celebrations in a cautious, safe, and Covid-appropriate manner.
