Tens of thousands were seen violating COVID-19 regulations, since many gathered on Sunday in the Sivaganga district to enjoy the annual fishing festival. This occurs in the context of an upsurge in novel instances of COVID-19. Tamil Nadu reported on Sunday 3,867 more cases of the COVID-19 and 72 fatalities.

The Tamil Nadu administration on Friday prolonged the COVID-induced lock-down by another week, along with the suspension of an interdistrict movement e-pass/e-registration system from 5 July.

Shops and activities permitted until 7 p.m. are now operating until 8 p.m. Hotels and tea shops with a capacity of 50% can function and IT firms with a workforce of 50%.
