India will recommence the export and donation of surplus vaccines beginning next month, according to Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, who made the announcement a day before Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the United States, where President Joe Biden is expected to tackle the matter.
India, the world’s largest vaccine manufacturer, halted vaccine exports in April to focus on immunizing its own people as the number of infections rose. The government hopes to vaccinate all of the country’s 94.4 million adults by December and has already administered at least one shot to 61% of them.
