As rumors about the already dominant Delta strain continue to cause chaos across countries, a more recently found lineage, Lambda, has swept the globe by storm, having been designated as a variation of interest by WHO on 15 June 2021.
In a recent announcement, WHO stated that “lambda has been associated with significant levels of communal transmission in various countries, with growing frequency over time coincident with growing Covid-19 occurrence,” and that further research into the variation will be conducted.
In August 2020, the lambda virus had its genesis in Peru. With 81 percent of all COVID-19 cases attributable to it, the Malaysian health ministry has declared this strain to be scarier than Delta.
