In Supreme Court, an ex-Unitech owner says, “Arrest My Children Too”

“Arrest my children as also,” remarked the lawyer for Sanjay Chandra, the former owner of Unitech, in the Supreme Court today, eliciting a strong response from the two judges hearing the case. “Listen, Mr. Singh!” warned Justice DY Chandrachud, repeating himself three times, after taking off his mask, urging the lawyer, Vikas Singh, to change course.

When that did not work, the judge said, “Do not raise your voice. Listen to us.”

Sanjay Chandra and his brother, Ajay, were arrested in 2017 for allegedly duping thousands of people into buying houses that were never built. Money laundering and embezzlement are among the charges leveled against the Chandras. Sanjay Chandra’s wife, Preeti, was arrested on Monday, along with his 80-year-old father, Ramesh Chandra.
