According to a city official, Mumbai has recorded its first death owing to the Delta Plus form of coronavirus, with a 63-year-old fully vaccinated woman dying to it in July. At least two of her close friends have been identified afflicted with the Delta Plus strain, which is considered extremely infectious, since her death, he said.

It is the state’s second mortality caused by this variety, which killed an 80-year-old woman from Ratnagiri district on June 13. Officials reported the woman had not received a single dose of COVID-19 vaccination.

In the most recent case, a woman from Ghatkopar, an eastern Mumbai suburb, died on July 27 while receiving treatment in a hospital ICU.
