Patanjali’s coronil tablet received a certificate from the World Health Organization (WHO) on Monday that the Indian Medical Association (IMA) termed it a lie. Surprisingly, the IMA has demanded an explanation from the Union Health Minister, Dr. Harsh Vardhan.Patanjali claims that the coronil tablet drug can cure the Covid-19 epidemic and has been confirmed on the basis of evidence. On the other hand, the WHO has clarified that it has not certified any conventional medicine as a treatment for the Covid-19 epidemic. It is noteworthy that Yoga Guru Ramdev’s Patanjali Ayurveda said on 19 February that under the certification scheme of WHO, coronil has received certification from Ministry of AYUSH as an adjunct drug in the treatment of Covid-19. However, later on it was also issued a cleanup. Patanjali Managing Director Acharya Balakrishna had later tweeted and said, “We want to make it clear that our WHO GMM compliant COPP certificate for Coronil was issued by DGCI, Government of India. It is clear that WHO does not approve any medicine. WHO works to create a better future for all in the world. The IMA said, “The Indian Medical Association is shocked to see the sheer falsehood of certification from WHO.” It is worth mentioning that Patanjali Ayurved based in Haridwar had also claimed to release a research paper regarding the effect of coronil for the treatment of Covid-19.
