Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation: Owaisi supported TRS in last moments to defeat BJP

Asaduddin Owaisi, the head of the All India Majlis ‑ ‑ Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), supported the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) to defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation. Subsequently, the TRS women’s team took over the post of Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation. TRS’s Garwal Vijayalakshmi was elected Mayor for Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation on Thursday. Gadwal Vijayalakshmi coming from Telangana Rashtra Samithi has reached the house after choosing ward number 93. The Mayor was elected by voice, Gadwal Vijayalakshmi will become the 17th Mayor of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation.

Vijayalakshmi is the first woman mayor of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) after Telangana was formed in 2014 and the second woman to occupy the chair after the formation of GHMC in 2009. The first Congress is Banda Karthika Reddy. At the same time, Mohit Sreelata Reddy, another TRS corporator of Taranaka Division, was elected as the Deputy Mayor of GHMC. He defeated Shankar Yadav of BJP.

The GHMC elections were held on December 1, which saw a very close contest between the BJP and TRS. The TRS won only 56 seats out of the 150-member GHMC Council. The party lost 20 seats by a majority. At the same time, BJP was in second place and got 48 seats. One of its corporators died of corona virus last month. AIMIM won 44 seats. In the last election too, he got the same number of seats.
