During a layover in Tehran on his route to Russia, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met with Iran’s President-elect Ebrahim Raisi and delivered a special note from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Raisi, Iran’s former judiciary leader, scored a resounding win in the June presidential election. He will be sworn in in early August.
Prime Minister Modi welcomed President-elect Raisi last month, saying he looked forward more to cooperating with him to improve India-Iran relationships.
During his brief visit to Tehran, Jaishankar met with his Iranian counterpart, Javad Zarif, and discussed a variety of bilateral and regional issues.
