The Kremlin said on Wednesday that the United States has begun a financial war against Russia, citing a barrage of sanctions imposed in response to the country’s military invasion in Ukraine. “The US has launched economic war on Russia and is de facto conducting this war,” Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told media, as the Russian government scrambled to enact steps to mitigate the sanctions’ financial impacts.
Dmytro Kuleba, Ukraine’s foreign minister, claimed on Wednesday that Russia is “keeping 400,000 people prisoner” in Mariupol and demanded a stop to the “barbaric war on civilians and newborns.”
