The former Congress leader Jitin Prasada joins the ruling Bhartiya Janta Party on Wednesday in New Delhi in the presence of Union Minister Piyush Goel. Soon after his joining the BJP spokesperson and Uttarakhand MP took to his Twitter account to announce he’s joining the party.
In an interview conducted by a leading newspaper Prasada said, “In the last 8-10 years, I have felt that if there is one party that is truly national, it is the BJP. The other parties are regional but this is a national party,” He also added that his decision to take exit from Congress was not all of a sudden. It happened after a lot of deliberation. Stating that he was not allowed to work in Congress Prasada added, “I felt that what is the relevance of staying in a party if you cannot work for your people or protect their interests.” He further added, “I felt I was unable to do that at Congress. I thank people in Congress who blessed me all these years but now I will work as a dedicated BJP worker.”
The official report stated that Prasada met the Union Minister at his Delhi residence. Prasada’s last work with Congress was to handle West Bengal’s election where Congress’s performance was not up to the mark. His party has set up a committee to look into the reasons behind this loss, however, the Bengal post-mortem is pending.
