The Supreme Court has granted bail to comedian Munawar Farooqui. He was accused of hurting religious sentiments. He had challenged the Madhya Pradesh High Court order dismissing bail in the top court. Farooqui was accused of hurting religious sentiments by making objectionable remarks about Hindu deities during an event. Farooqui’s plea was heard before a bench of Supreme Court Justice RF Nariman and Justice BR Gavai.Farooqui and others were arrested on January 1 on the complaint of Eklavya Singh Gaur, son of BJP MLA Laxman Singh Gaur. The MLA’s son had lodged a complaint that Farooqui had made objectionable remarks against Hindu deities and Union Home Minister Amit Shah during a comedy show at a cafe in Indore on New Year. Later another person was arrested.
